Been air gunning as a hobby and sport for well over 40yrs. Own 6 air rifles and a couple of pistols. I ordered this jewel from Flying Dragon Air Rifles. What moved me to order this rifle was Mike Melicks reputation as a QB78 tuner and the fact for a few more dollars than the competion they would sell you a “Max” tuned version of this fine rifle. Mike inspects the gun to make sure it’s a good example of this product(China still is a little spotty in the QC department ) and then tear the gun down, cleans, lubes and modifies the gun to its full potential. My example shoots at over 700fps(lead) and has one of the slickest triggers I have ever rapped my fingers around. Wood work and metal work was excellent at this price point. It shoots and groups as well or better than guns I own costing three times what I paid for this sweetheart and nothing else I own has a nicer trigger. Easy handling, quick to come to point and nice to look at. I am proud to own it. Get you one and tell Mike Jim from Flint sent ya’. You will be glad you did.

I think its great right out of the box it looked good. With a decent scope at 10 metres, ten shots were covered by a quarter. The magpies in my backyard are in for a suprise.

For the money, this is a beautiful rifle. I paid $120 Canadian for the 0.22 cal QB78 Deluxe, so when it arrived and I opened the box, I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the quality of the product that I found inside.

Positives:

Very accurate at 20-30 yards. Almost no recoil. Very attractive stock and barrel. Love the bolt action mechanism. Look and feels MUCH better than the price would suggest.

Negatives:

Requires C02.

Additional notes.

The pellets that I found work best with this rifle are the Crosman Wadcutters for target practice and RWS SuperPoints for outdoor use.

This review is for the “QB-78 Deluxe” in .22, I bout this gun about a year and a half ago, and immediately had it modded, so I can’t tell you how a stock one goe’s, But my modded QB-78D is Fantastic, It’s probably paid for itelf in Rabbit meat alone, Right Now, It’s shooting a 14.66 H&N FTT at very close to 700fps, and w/ Lead Free ammo like RWS HVP’s(Skenco’s)which come in at a nice 11gr., I’m getting close to 900fps, and w/ 9gr. Prometheus Hunter’s It gets up to 925fps, and all that with superb accuracy, I’ve taken 20pd “Jack’s” at upwards of 35yds. This gun likes all kinds of ammo, but really seems to like anything by H&N, especially their SpitzKugeln’s,Coppa-Point’s,FTT’s,Silouette’s,etc. I highly Recommend this gun. Happy Huntin’, Andy.

Well I finally mustard up the extra cash to buy an unknown and after 2 weeks a few hundred pellets and unknown amount of co2 tubes Im convinced

The Qb78 is a great little rifle. Definitely needs to be bulk fill as the cost of co2 tubes kind of spoils the inexpensive fun that air rifles were intended for.

I dont know about the numerous modifications I have read about and it all seems to be a waste of time as this is a great rifle as is

My power-modded QB78 in .22 is my favorite air rifle; I did a web search and found all the info I needed to mod my gun myself. You can’t get more bang for your $ than a brand new QB78 @ $71. It’s a copy of one of Crosman’s best (the Model 160), and actually is an improved version. Yes, you do have to break it down and clean up the trigger group and debur screw holes (particularly the barrel set screw area), but it’s not that big a task and well worth the quality gun you get. It comes with a steel breech w/dovetails and takes two CO2 carts. All three of mine were extremely accurate out of the box. The only weak point of the entire QB design is the plastic barrel band, but RJ Machine has made a high quality steel replacement. I like the heft and feel of the QB78 and it doesn’t require a lot of modding to make a very good air rifle a great one. The QB 78/.22 is one of the best buys going in airguns and is fine out of the box, requiring a little cleaning up is all.
